oh yeah, by the way, vintagemgear, what makes the tower version so much more expensive than its pedal counterpart ? (not criticizing, just curious, as like DocLoco, it's the one I would prefer to buy in the end if I let myself fall for one
)
The Tower is unfortunately at a higher price level than I'd want. This is due to the following things:
We really spared no single penny on the design of the enclosure. This had to be done fully from scratch - blueprints from the original SVDS enclosure had to be made. A lot of the parts, the extruded aluminium housing, the panels, were hard to build and source.
The Tower also has quite some extra features compared to the pedals:
- Remote footswitch enabling/disabling of the device (sealed high grade signal relay switching)
- Disable monitor boost (XLR output SVDS receiver)
- Disable/enable the optical limiter , threshold of compression controllable from the back panel
- Balanced XLR output completely isolated from the output jack (balanced transformer)
- 15V powered and higher internal voltages for more headroom
- VU meter
The boards are also completely through hole for the highest build quality and reliability. This is completely done by hand. Also the full unit is hand-wired. No PC connectors, ...
