Donc pour vous , la Storm est mieux ?
Yes, especially because it has the optical limiter which can be helpful. Some part of the thick SVDS tone was in fact that the optical limiter inside the transmitter was acting when the input sensitivity was set high. This was to prevent the wireless modulator from over-modulating which causes clipping. They had to prevent that with, and incorporated the brick wall (very fast attack, slow release) optical limiter.
This limiter is not present on the TSR pedal.
We added that one for the Storm pedal, but made the threshold of acting variable with the 3th control knob. When it is working, it does 2 things:
- Acts the opposite way of a normal 'guitar volume control': When you lower your volume, it will become darker on a regular guitar-into-amp situation, because of the low pass filter you create due to your pickup coil inductance and your bigger load on your pickup. When you turn your guitar volume all the way up, you suddenly gain a lot of high presence, which can sound a bit harsh. The Storm with the OI does actually the opposite, when you turn your volume all the way up, the limiter will act and will make it sound 'thicker' , rolling it back off will make it sound more transparent. Because you turn up for 'solo work' and you often play single note stuff, a thicker sound is more desirable. When playing rhythm, it works really well if your sound cleans up a bit instead of becoming thicker.
- When the limiter works it creates a kind of low pass filter on the opamp input stage, which additionally makes your lead work sound more 'mellow, midrangy', instead of harsh.
The Storm can also be powered on 12V (center neg of course) instead of 9V for more input headroom to prevent it from slight clipping with high output pickups.
So overall - Yes, I like it better.
