Encore un album fantastique d'un groupe U.S. resté obscur.
Le guitariste et le bassiste sont loin d'être manchots sur cet album de heavy psychedelic blues rock.



A écouter peut être en priorité l'excellente reprise de Jimi Hendrix "Voodoo Chile / 3rd Stone From the Sun"
(a 01:07:35 ) mais l'album entier est une pépite que je recommande

Quel taquin ce Jimi Hendrix... , il a placé des solos et des messages cachés à l'envers sur ses enregistrements.
J'entends "You show me again we've got nine lives" a 4:50 ? puis ???

The Crazy World of Arthur Brown - The Crazy World of Arthur Brown - 1968




L’album est considéré comme un classique de la scène psychédélique anglaise de la fin des années 1960.
Il contient des reprises de chansons de Screamin' Jay Hawkins et de James Brown.
Arthur Brown est surnommé « The God of Hellfire » en raison des premiers mots de la chanson Fire.

Son premier album, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown a un succès inattendu en Europe et en Amérique.
Il se classe au numéro 2 des ventes britanniques en septembre 1968.
L'album est réalisé par Kit Lambert, réalisateur artistique des Who et Pete Townshend comme producteur associé.

Arthur Brown apparaît en concert avec un casque en feu ou un maquillage qui sera, par la suite, repris par Alice Cooper.

Brown est interdit de scène aux États-Unis alors qu'il est en tournée.
Par la suite, Arthur Brown ne rencontre plus autant de succès.

Je crois surtout que plus personne ne voulait prendre le risque de le programmer, car il avait tendance à mettre le feu ou détériorer les salles de concerts avec ses effets pyrotechniques mal maitrisés.

Visiblement il est toujours en activité et il fait toujours des concerts, j'avais vu des affiches avant le covid.

Fire : un titre qui a mis le feu dans les discothèques de l'époque. .
Assez inspiré du RnB de l'époque je trouve. et aussi, assez proche de l'Éloïse de Barry Ryan.
Limite psyché quand même.

Canal plus avait fait la nuit des 60's et surtout de la fin.
Ils avaient passé des tonnes de clip de la pop de l'époque avec bon nombres de groupes qui n'ont sorti qu'un tube ou deux
Mais c'était une mine d'or et un vrai jukebox de l'époque
Je ne sais pas si on peut trouver les archives

Il y avait aussi l'émission l'oeil du cyclone sur C+ qui était bien psyché.

Ils ont même consacré un épisode au Trip Psychedelique

Absolument ! Pourtant, il a fait des émules, même sur la scène psychedelic lyonnaise Jette un coup d'œil page 34 avec Chico Magnetic Band ... Un autre furieux

Bob Smith - The Visit - 1970


Un album magnifique de psychedelic west coast avec une atmosphère mystique, de bonnes guitares fuzz/octa fuzz - wha wha, du Mellotron, du sitar, des effets de studio, du MOOG...

Musicalement, le contenu est assez divers, cette psychedelia contient aussi des traces de hard rock, d'upbeat folk et des expérimentations jazzy.

Le morceau "India Slumber" a 30:20 est incroyable.

The Sons Of Champlin - Loosen Up Naturally - 1969


Même si The Sons Of Champlin ont fait leur début avec le single "Sing Me A Rainbow" en 1967, il leur a fallu deux ans supplémentaires pour réaliser leur premier album, ce qui veut dire qu'ils étaient en retard sur les starting blocks pour la scène des groupes de San Francisco, ceci dit, c'est un double album qui dure une heure.

Ils se sont aussi immédiatement distingué en termes d'instrumentations et d'arrangements.
The Sons Of Champlin ont pris de leur inspiration du R&B et du jazz, auxquels ils ont fait procéder un traitement psychedelic, de plus, l'utilisation de cuivres étant inhabituel pour cette scène à l'époque, ils anticipent le son a venir de groupes comme Blood, Sweat and Tears, même si leur style est plus orienté pop.

On peut certainement mieux comprendre The Sons Of Champlin comme fondamentalement un groupe de jazz qui s'est acclimaté au son "west coast" de l'époque.

La pochette elle, est complétement d'inspiration psychedelic.

Un morceau de psyché/proto funk de l'excellent Sly & The Family Stone, qui a été l'un des moments phares du festival de Woodstock.

Actif entre 1967 et 1983, le groupe a eu une influence considérable sur de très nombreux artistes pop de son époque, notamment de par son approche multiraciale.
Sly and the Family Stone est également l'un des premiers groupes de l'histoire du rock américain comptant des membres de sexes et d'origines ethniques différentes.

Le groupe s'est finalement séparé en 1975 à cause de rivalités entre ses membres, et surtout a cause des problèmes de drogue de Sly Stone.
Celui-ci a néanmoins continué à se produire sous le nom de Sly and the Family Stone jusqu'en 1987, date à laquelle il a été condamné pour usage de cocaïne.

Sly and the Family Stone a été intronisé au Rock'n'roll Hall of Fame en 1993.

Tomorrow - Tomorrow - 1968



Tomorrow était l'un des groupes Anglais psychedelic les plus innovant de la fin des 60'.
Keith West, Steve Howe (qui allait jouer dans Yes) et John Wood ont tous joués dans The In Crowd et sortis quelques singles avant que Twink (The Fairies) ne les rejoigne.

Leur show était l'un des actes majeurs de la scène psychédélique Londonienne avec Pink Floyd et Soft Machine, ils ont aussi ouvert pour Jimi Hendrix.

Leur manque de succès commercial peut s'expliquer par le long délai entre les sessions d'enregistrements de l'album en 1967 et la sortie de l'album alors que la vague psychedelic commençait a décliner.

A écouter particulièrement "My White Bicycle" inspiré par les Provo Néerlandais qui mettaient des vélos blancs libres en système de partage.
Il a été enregistré a Abbey Road studio 1 pendant que les Beatles enregistraient "Sgt. Pepper's..." au studio 2.

Plus tard John Lennon a décrit le morceau comme "l'hymne psychedelic" du Swingin London...
Il y a tout le registre d'effets psychedelic du studio 1 d'Abbey Road de l'époque (panning, bandes a l'envers...)

Une reprise compétente de "Strawberry Fields Forever" est aussi a noter sur l'album.

en tout cas, c'est très dans la période
je valide

edit : mais beaucoup trop proche d'autres artistes/groupes dans la musicalité. je suis pas étonné que le groupe ne soit pas devenu mythique (ça fait quand même très copié collé)
mais ça reste largement écoutable et appréciable
