Well, my first hand experience was a friend who had a tele and the nut just fell off after a month. Furthermore, it was a laminated sunburst finish and he had pieces of laminate falling off the edges. I tried 3 strat copies in a shop and they were really inadequate. Now this was 2-3 year ago. Other stories are mainly related to quality and some low cost design choices, like an "inventive neck stability system with no truss rod". (!).
I have noticed that Jim Reed company created a lot of bad feelings amongst the guitar community here in Italy since there is a lot of spam and deceiving publicity going on at newsgroups claiming that his guitars are "Hand made by Italian Luthiers" and "better than Fender or Gibson" which it appears is not true at all. Apparently, the source for components is the same as for many low cost companies (South East Asia, Vietnam) and he just assembles them. Hence, it is probable that the quaility of his products is very varied, i.e. dependent on the batch of components he orders at a certain time.
quand meme......

I've been playing off and on for 13 years and have a Liberty custom copperhead resonator (lovely), a dearmond starfire (gibson 335) and this reed tele. I run these through a vox/korg valvetronix 60 watt tube amp simulator / effects unit (see
www.valvetronix.com).
If this guitar were lost or stolen I would probably get a burns steer single cutaway. But having said that, a burns steer is £500 and a jim reed telecaster is £200. This is definitley the best in it's price range. Even better than Japanese Fender teles.

I play Telecasters, been playing them for 17 years now. Had American Fenders, Japanese Fenders and Mexican Fenders plus Japanese and Korean Squiers. Even had an Indonesian Squier for a while. In recent years I've been building my own to use from kits. I bought this one for about the price of a kit after reading a review on harmony. No risk, the guys offered a full refund if not satisfied. Damn I'm not sure I could build one this good and I'm so sure that Fender couldn't build one this good at this price!!!! Quality and soundwise I'd rate it just (and only just) below an American Fender, better than a Japanese and a whole rack better than a Mexican. Hell, if theye were still around at this price I'd cover my walls with them. What do I play? Well if I tell you I'm in a Rage against the Machine cover band you'll get the idea.

My setup is very simple. I play this and my Fender USA Standard Tele through a Marshall JCM900 100W valve combo and have an Electar 65W tranny combo I either use as backup or run from the line-out of the Marshall. I play through a Nady system live. I don't use any effects whatsoever.
If this were stolen I would simply HAVE to buy another Jim Reed Tele. To be honest if my Fender were stolen I'd probably buy another Jim Reed Tele!!!I used to use Gibsons, Ibanezes and any other gutars with hot humbuckers before becoming a Tele convert. This guitar stands up against any of them for what it is, what it does and its incredible value for money!!!! I'll repeat, it's a Tele. If you buy one you ae getting....a Tele!

I am very happy with this guitar, it is cheaper than a fender by about £120 and plays far better (than a mexican). A very very good buy. If it were stolen I would definatley buy one again. Extremely good value.

I'm astounded by this guitar! I've spent easily three or four times this amount in the past on telecasters and even the difference in quality between them and this is negotiable, there really is almost nothing in it at all!
I have no doubt whatsoever that if this were stolen (there's no way it's going to break!), I woudl replace it with a nother just like it, perhaps in the ash version instead, just for the change, but still another Jim Reed.
This is a hand-built Italian guitar, and you really cannot afford to mix these up with the cheap things coming out of Asia and China right now, this is a top-quality professional stage guitar, and I've been using it as such and not had any problems at all with it. wonderful, and for that price? ASTOUNDING!

Not been playing long, This is played through a Fender 15G Amp and Korg AX100 Effects and does everything I want, I looked at other guitars and after reading the reviews settled on the Jim Reed I can honestly say that in terms of looks sound and overall build quality this is one hell of a guitar. If it was stolen I think I would book a flight to Italy and slap Jim Reed on the back and buy him several drinks and then get a new one. If you want a Strat look no further this guitar is the business.

Been playing about 20 years. Currently using a Rothwell Electronics PC5 (custom built) Valve amp along with a 20 year old Rothwell Guitars custom strat copy (best guitar I've ever owned), a 7 string Epihone Les Paul and the Jim Reed strat. I have previously owned an early 80's USA standard strat, a charvel model 6 and a mid 70's Gibson Les Paul. The Jim reed is the second best guitar I've ever owned.
If you have your heart set on buying a USA strat then don't. Buy a Jim Reed strat from
www.guitardeals.co.uk, a Custom amp from Rothwell Electronics (sales@rothwell.omnia.co.uk) and spend the change on a few effects pedals from ebay.
If the Jim Reed was stolen I'd use the insurance money to buy another one. If the Television was stolen at the same time I'd use the insurance money to buy a Jim Reed telecaster as well.
Voila... et il y'en a beaucoup d'autres
