Citation:
For several solos on Shangri-La, Knopfler ran his '58 Les Paul through a Komet head designed by Ken Fischer of Trainwreck fame. Komet's Holger Notzel elaborates: "Mark plays a stock Komet 60 equipped with NOS tubes from Ken's personal collection. A high-gain, single-channel amp with no master volume or reverb, the 60 uses two EL34 output tubes, three 12AX7 preamp tubes, and a GZ34 rectifier. It features a Fast/Gradual switch to allow a choice of response, and Presence and Hi-Cut controls let the player shape the high end to match any guitar and style."
Son matériel pour la tournée Shangri-La, puisqu'on en parle :

The Komet-looking thing on top of the rack is - a Komet 60. Mark has Komet-heads both off- and onstage. The ones offstage are handled by his tech, Glenn Saggers (in the pic), and are slaved to line-level through Dr Z Airbrakes. The linesignal goes through the rack and then out to the poweramps in the Komets onstage and from there to red/basketweave Marshall 4x12's (Purdy!).
Mr. Saggers changes ampsettings on the slaved Komets offstage between songs and that is why he has changed the Komet-knobs to Fender-style knobs (easier to read). The only other thing that Mark has onstage is a Hotcake that he uses for 'Song for Sonny Liston' if memory serves me right.
I think that your pic is from the tour Mark did with Emmylou Harris. On this outing he only used one Komet off- and one onstage. He also has a Toneking combo onstage for a few numbers. On his last solotour there were 4 Komets being used.
Patrik (also a huge Knopfler-fan!)
