Hi Eddie,

You were the BEST of our generation.
I am so sorry you have gone.
My condolences to your loved ones.
I miss you, but like my partner said to me: "You have gone to a better place."
Rest In Peace, my friend!

I will always remember and treasure when we met in Germany in the late '70's when I came with the Scorpions
to see your show. Can't never forget the lovely times we spend together in your dressing room.

My highest respect for your incredible guitar playing, sound, melodies, your sense of rhythm, your amazing entertaining abilities and everything else. You were a complete, fantastic, all round amazing guitarist.

God bless you and keep you in good care.

“The type of cap is not as important as the value of the cap, for guitar. In an Amp, your cap type is much more important, as the signal is being passed through the cap all the time. In a guitar, you’re not hearing the cap itself, you’re hearing what the cap is impeding”. Lindy Fralin

The first time I was on award show was the MTV awards. Van Halen with David Lee Roth had not been seen together since the early 80s. I think they were there to announce a reunion. They were also presenting the award for the category I was nominated him. As if I wasn’t nervous enough there was David Lee Roth holding court and Eddie Van Halen at his side in white overalls putting his legendary arm around me to hand me an award. Two very surreal things happening at the same time in front of a Radio City Hall audience filled with every musician you could think of. The next time I ran into Eddie was many years later at my dentist. I had just gotten a filling and he popped in with his inimitable grin and said hello. When I heard the news about his passing yesterday the first thing I thought about was that grin. I had always thought that the secret to what made his playing so impressive wasn’t just his technical prowess but that grin. You rarely see a rock musician having that much fun. I remember as a little kid seeing that infectious smile on TV while nonchalantly perpetrating pyrotechnic guitar wizardry thinking that guy knows some thing that I want to know and someday I want to be having as much fun as him. I still hope to reach that guitar beatitude

So long Eddie, it was great to know ya. Once in awhile someone comes along and changes the musical universe, and of the millions of guitarists in the world, EVH was one of those few. Up there with the greatest guitarists of all time, like Hendrix. I wish you’d had more time, who knows what would have come next, but thanks for the good times, the great solos, the songs, and for being my friend. RIP #eddievanhalen
