Here are specific dates for changes to the TriAxis.
January of 1993 - around serial # 1700 - converted to version 2.0 software
Spring 1997 - around serial # 5000 - Fat mod added.
October 2004 - Starting serial #- T8279 - The LD1 Red mode has been changed, therefore the Phat Mod is no longer relevant. Also, the new Triaxis can NOT be updated (reversed?) back to the old
LD1 red mode (the TX4 circuit board). It's not that we won't do it, it's just that we can't do it. If someone wants it, they'll have to hunt down a pre- #T8279 Tri.
With regards to the various versions of the TriAxis that are out there, here are the differences:
Version 1.0 - No continuous control and Lead 1 Red channel is "British Shred"
Version 2.0 - Continuous Control is added and Lead 1 Red channel is modded to "Recto" channel, based on the Dual Rectifier VINTAGE/ORANGE Channel.
Version 2.0 "Fat Modded" - This kept everything the same as Version 2.0, but tweaked the hardware circuit and software of the Lead 1 Red channel to enhance the bass frequencies. It should still be possible to have your 1.0 or 2.0 model "fat modded" by the Mesa factory if you wish to do so. The caveat is that you must have a 1.0 or 2.0 version TriAxis. If you have a current model (3.0), your TriAxis does NOT have the correct recto board installed and since they are no longer available, you won't be able to have this done.
Current Model (Version 3.0) - Due to the complete exhaustion of the parts needed to create the recto board at Mesa any longer, the decision was made to return BACK to the British Shred design for Lead 1 Red channel.
Hopefully that sums up the differences well enough. For those who own a version 2.0 that want to know if their TriAxis has the fat mod or not, just check out what is displayed on the screen when you turn the TriAxis on (assuming you still have the first 20 slots programmed as the default factory presets):
When the Fat Mod is installed, it also results in some verifiable
changes being made to the default settings for Lead 1 Red, preset 10
and preset 11. If your settings are at the factory presets;
Lead 1 Red Parameters
6.0 6.5 7.5 8.0 5.5 0.0 4.5 5.0 0.0
Preset 10
6.0 6.0 7.0 8.0 2.0 0.0 5.5 2.0 0.0
Preset 11
6.0 6.5 7.5 7.0 5.5 0.0 4.5 5.0 0.0
If set to factory presets, and you don't see these settings, then
you don't have the fat mod.
Hope this helps,
