Je vais essayer de faire un truc un peu étoffé.
Pour commencer, une image de son rack, qui doit dater de la fin des années 80/début 90, car on aperçoit les têtes Fender Dual Showman qu'il abandonna par la suite.
Occupons-nous maintenant du matériel 2002. Ce qui va suivre était il y a bien longtemps disponible sur une page web disparue (depuis longtemps également). Coup de bol, j'avais imprimé la chose. Sxannées, les photos ne sont pas terribles mais si ça ne vous convient pas, vous pouvez aussi vous passer des infos intéressantes qu'elles proposent.

Old gear
1973: Echoplex, Reverb, Tremolo, Marshall fuzz box, Cry Baby wah-wah, Fender
volume pedal and a Maestro fuzz tone, Ring Modulator.
1974 - 1975: same as 1973 less the Ring Modulator.
1977 - 1978: MXR Phase 90, DBX Flanger and noise reduction unit, Maestro fuzz
tone, Boomerang wah-wah, Cry Baby wah-wah, four Sho-Bud volume pedals, and two
Electro-Harmonix Big Muff fuzz boxes.
Note personnelle : d'après ce que j'ai compris, la Variax lui sert entre autres choses pour simuler la sitar electrique dans certains morceaux de Yes.
Je reposte également cette photo du rack
Vous remarquerez que le contenu du rack est encore un peu différent (2 Korg A3) et surtout qu'on distingue par terre, au pied du rack, un petit pédalier midi qui me semble bien être celui du Korg A3 justement.

"Basically I split the send from the guitar and one of the sends goes direct to the A3. It goes through a mixer and I decide whether I want it in or out and then it comes out from there and goes to the floor monitors in front of me, and they are made by Sound Projects and are called Master Blasters, they're very small powerful monitors. And that usually nowadays is how I hear the A-3, and then the send off of that will go straight to the desk and that's how we recorded "Be the One" and "That, That Is" by having a guitar send to the amp but also a guitar send to the A-3, or other guitar processors. That's roughly how I use it."
What were some of your favorite settings and effects?
"That's a secret really! I do use quite a lot of sounds from my own card, the Steve Howe A-3 card, which is available from Korg. It has original sounds by me and they give names as well, like ABWH and things like that, so it's quite a good start."
Sérieusement, si vous appréciez le bonhomme, lisez ça (OK, c'est en anglais), c'est une mine. Il y a beaucoup d'infos entre autres sur le matériel utilisé en studio.
