For the past few years, I’ve played Yamaha guitars exclusively, but with Return to Metalopolis, I was playing Paul Reed Smiths. My amp setup was a Mesa/Boogie Studio Preamp into a Carvin power amp with assorted delays. For chorus, I used a Digitech IPS33 pitch shifter—a great smart harmonizer with these really thick choruses. My clean tones came from a Rane programmable graphic EQ. I went right out of the Rane into the Carvin power amp. I’ve since learned that doing that sends your signal through a bunch of op-amps that kind of mess with your tone. Now, I would never do that, but, back then, I was just learning. I switched everything with a Bob Bradshaw system.
