During the last tour we got two 2203's with master volume controls and we alternated sporadically between the older heads and the new "Henry-fied" ones.
Speakers in his 4X12's are older 25-watt Celestion G12M's.Henry re-conedthem a few years ago and modified them using twin leads from the cone to the terminal. He used Electro Voice epoxy to keep the copper voice coil and the speaker cone together."The twin leads insure that the speakers can take more current and gives the cone more freedom to respond to the Signal Steve demands," says Henry.
"The epoxy gives the cone a quicker response and avoid out-of-phase distortion.Without the epoxy, the signal response would not be quick enough and you would hear the speaker distortion as opposed to the amplifier distorting. The epoxy also dissipates heat."
Effects are an area where Steve does not play by the rules. He prefers to just plug the thing in and fly solo.He has a natural talent as a do-it-your-selfer.The pedalboard includes the following:Boss CS-2,Boss OC-2,Boss CE-2,Boss GE-7,a Roger Mayer-ized Cry Baby wah,Pro-Co Rat and a Rpland PV-1.Two Boss PSM-5 pedals control his effects loop and activate the raygun effect. We added LED's to the Rat and the Cry Baby so Steve cold see if they were on or off on a dark stage.
His rack contains the following delays and effects:Two Lexicon PCM-41's,Roland SDE-3000,Dimension D,SRE-555 Tape Delay and a Rockman X-100 in a Rockmount. He started using the Roland GR-700 guitar synthesizer on the road last year. The wireless is a Nady VHF 700 system.
In the future we'll be getting a new swithching/ effects controller built by a young man on the West Coast named Bob Bradshaw(sic).
It will be programmable with up to 16 effects loops and 6 control functions. It will also control MIDI programmable effects. The design calls for one main pedalboard on Steve's side of the stage amd a small remote in stage left. That's about it as far as his equipment goes but oh yeah,I have to mention that I always use Sonic II ear valves whenever he's around!
