Apr 1, 2006 - This guitar is amazing!!!!! I am an intermediate level guitar player, I had an ESP Viper 100 but it was becoming a pain, so I went to GuitarCenter. I played a few Schecters(the guitar i went to get). I played a C-1 Plus, a C-1 Classic and also a Jackson DXMG. I went with the intention of getting the C-1 Plus which is also $550, but on a whim I picked up the PRS and let me say I was blow away. The pickups have more life in them than the Jackson and Schecter combined. The tone variance between bridge and neck pickups gives you the flexibility of switching from jazz to metal without sacrificing a great overall tone. The action is very low and the fat neck works with even the smallest of hand(myself included). I would recommend this over any other guitar in the price range and the price range above. GET THIS GUITAR!!!!!!! PRS ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GREAT VALUE FOR A PRS!

Mar 31, 2006 - I've had this for about two months now and love it. The action was great right out of the box. The finish is nice although it has a few spots where the neck meets the body. They can probably be buffed out. It has a smooth rich tone yet crunches pretty good too.
Awesome instrument

Mar 30, 2006 - This guitar costs about a quarter of a "real" MIA PRS. The only tangible difference is that the SE is not a carved-top. The neck is *beefy*, which works for me with large hands. The action was *perfect* right from the box. The PRS-designed pups are aggressive yet retain absolute clarity, on par with Wolfgang 'buckers. The finish is flawless, and I scrutinized it. It's well-balanced between neck & body. The flame veneer is nice, not overdone like photo-flame chintz. The maple "binding" is much more elegant than the usual plastic binding. The pots feel like quality material, with a little resistance in the turn rather than the usual loose-feeling ones. Not scratchy at all and they actually seem to work. The trem bridge is set up well, and floats just a hair to make it interesting. Diving is smooth without resistance, and it seemingly comes back in tune just fine. The only complaint I have is the tuners. Locking tuners would be nice. It's not the trem, it's the tuners, methinks, that make it go outta whack at times. I like the Fender-like trem on this more than I would a Floyd-like trem. The plastic nut is kinda cheesy, too. A graphite would be nice if locking tuners aren't available. The gig bag is super-schweet. Nicest gig bag I've ever seen. I can't believe this quality a guitar can be purchased for $550 or so. There is not a better "budget" instrument on the planet. This isn't like an Epi or Squier relative to their big expensive American cousins. This PRS stands up to the Paul Reed Smith expectation.
It's definitely a PRS

Mar 29, 2006 - I own 14 guitars, including Gibsons and Fenders, and i must say that my prs is my favorite. I own a custom 22, and i'm fixing to buy one of these to take to college. I played this at my guitar dealer, and i must say that you can tell that it's a PRS. This is a great product for anyone.

Mar 25, 2006 - Keep in mind, I've spent the past 20 years a stubborn Fender Strat advocate...for me, there was no other guitar worthy of purchase: This is the best value I've found in a guitar in the 20+ years of playing. Now, forget the 'value' and 'affordability' for a minute...this guitar 'plays' incredibly. The wide fat neck ensures effortless chord execution, super fast and smooth neck and perfect action balance...just enough string tension to bend to the moon, yet low enough to shred up and down the neck effortlessly. The 'stock' pickups sound like custom upgrades, delivering a nice clean tone to a fat, sustained 'in your face' distorted attack. The hardware is even impressive...tight, smooth and 'balls on' accurate machine heads, nice tremolo, sturdy volume/tone knobs. Aesthetically, the guitar is just awesome...well designed, perfectly balanced between contemporary and cool, yet beautiful. Back to the 'value'...all this for less than $800! If you can't afford to drop a few grand on your 'dream' guitar...DON'T. Try this one! 'You can't always get what you want, but you'll get what you need'. The PRS company have raised the bar to a new level in all the industry in terms of quality in the 'affordable' guitar line...so high, in fact, I doubt the competitors will be able to even remotely meet the challenge. VERY nice...wow!
