Local rock band the Nadas have been selected to open for the sold Bon Jovi concert Nov. 2 at Wells Fargo Arena. The group beat out Towncrier, Dauntless Hero, the Lifestyle and the Mudpuppies to earn the spot. The groups were judged by an independent panel of judges comprised of Des Moines Register music critic Kyle Munson, Des Moines Symphony music director Joseph Guinta and concert promoter Steve White.I'm crazy excited," said Nadas guitarist/vocalist Mike Butterworth, 30, before a show in New York City. "It's going to be a really great opportunity and something we will remember forever." The Bon Jovi concert will give the Nadas an audience of more than 15,000 — three times the largest crowd they have played for previously. "We're going to pick our strongest material and just get out and do our thing," he said. The four-piece band has performed together for 12 years. The band released a new CD, "Listen Through the Static," earlier this month.
Winning the competition also puts the Nadas in the running to open for Bon Jovi in 2006 at Giants Stadium.
