Part 2: RockWalk Of Fame Dime Induction Pre-Event
I was going to post the entire Induction thing as a single post but there's just too much to do in one post without killing everybody's browsers. So.. I'm going to have to break this into 2 chunks. It's still going to be huge (60+ pix), even for one of my posts.
I got there at 9:30. The event was scheduled to start at noon. The crew guys were just getting started setting up the stage and whatnot.
There was already a good size line in place on both sides of the area they were holding it at, as well as a full security crew and barriers already up.
The display was already set up. Most of the stuff you guys who've been to DOA have already seen in Tampa.
And this is the bust that will go on the wall.
As a point of information, living artists who get inducted go on the ground and have plates with thier names and handprints.
The original DFH. It displaced a PRS Dragon that was in the case the day before.
This is most likely the very first time in my life I've photographed something in a museum grade case that I've already picked up and held myself in real life long prior to photographing it in the case.
Out back they were making preparations for the rest of the VIP arrivals. One cool thing they had were these pedal boards which they were going to have the artists autograph, and then actually use on stage at the concert. As I understand it these then get auctioned off for charity.
As people started showing up they were greeted with.. paperwork. As the event was being filmed, everybody had to sign a release.
The rest of this guy is Andrew Bryniarski, whom most of you know as Leatherface in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He had this tatoo done specifically for the event the monday before.

After the release stuff is done, they put these guys to work signing all kinds of stuff. John 5 waits to sign Fender pickguards of all things. On his left is fellow DOA'er Chad Lee.
They had a long table loaded up with stuff that the artists all signed.

On the right is Dime's publicist Janie. If you weren't on her list you were promply removed by security. She had a very busy day managing a half zillion details for all kinds of stuff.
Claudia from GC handled the signing line. Sign this with this color pen, that with that, we need 5 copies of this, two of that, etc. A large bit of behind the scenes work went into this.

They REALLY put everyone to work. I lost count of how many copies of this thing he had to sign.
Classic stuff. No less that 4 people on the phone at the same time. Pure LA at it's finest.

Dean's phone rings nonstop. Every time I've ever talked to the guy it's been "hang on a second I have somebody on the other line".

Meanwhile, out front the press are starting to fill in the area behind the ropes.
And the crowd is now all the way around the block on both sides.

No words suffice.
There was a backdrop set up and everybody ended up getting lots of pictures taken in front of it.

It starts out small. By the time they got done I was about halfway amazed as to how many people they could pack on the backdrop.

No sooner than they finished the "portrait setting" shoots did they put them back to work autographing more stuff, in this case...
