deja voici comment Eddie Van Halen a "donné" une guitare pour l'enterrement de Darrell
This story is sad, cool, crazy, & ITS ABOUT YOU DARRELL!!!
As most of you know, Vince & Darrell had finally got to meet the Halen brothers just mere days before there was a reason for this tribute section. They REALLY hit it off, & became fast friends overnite! A very rare thing if you know anything about the Halen camp.
I keep having (in my head) to dance around Dec. 8th, so I will just start from here...
My other half & I went up to Darrells on the 10th, & when we got there Rita was there all by herself. It just happened that way, & I know Darrell had something to do with it. He had told me things that he wanted me to tell Rita (mainly how much he loved her & that she was his "best friend in the world") "Dude, shes like a dude with no balls, the best of both worlds." He used to sit and talk to me for hours on end about Rita. Literally. So we had a few hours of calm & silence to talk. Except for one thing. The phone. Someone kept calling, & it was Eddie Van Halen, & he was concerned.
In one of their many discussions, Eddie had asked if they were going to bury Darrell with a guitar, & if so, what was the story behind it? Did he have a favorite guitar? He was just wondering, & trying anything he could to help them thru this very hard time. Well, Vince & Rita had talked about this, & had a nice idea...
On the tour that VH was out on, Eddie was taking a guitar everyday, painting it up & "Frankensteining" it, playing it during the show, & then selling it on ebay. He was doing it to raise money for chairity, ALL the money (every fuking cent) raised from the sales went to chairity. And it was alot. I seem to remember the guitars were going for around $18000.00 or so. Well, Darrell had told everybody that he wanted to buy one of those guitars off of ebay.
This was his chance to have a real Eddie Van Halen guitar. So watch for a black & yellow one. Keep in mind that he had said that just days before all this happened. So Rita told Eddie That Darrell had planned on buying one of his guitars off of ebay, & that he was REALLY excited about it. Now the big favor they wanted to ask, was if Eddie would "stripe one up" & sell it to them, although there was no ebay auction at the time. SHE OFFERED TO PAY MORE THAN DOUBLE WHAT THE MOST EXPENSIVE ONE HAD SOLD FOR! SHE INSISTED!!! They did not want it for free, they wanted to pay for it & they were more than happy to get one of the generic guitars that he was doing up, it didn't matter if it had been played, it just needed to come from him. So he finally relented (he insisted they did not have to pay for it) & asked what the guitar would look like that he had said he wanted. A black one with yellow stripes. So he told her, okay, I'll take care of it. Man, that was so cool! Darrell would get one of those guitars yet! We all hoped he would bring it, but didn't count on it. Either way it would get there, & Darrell would be buried with one of his biggest hero's guitars!
Well, a few days later we are at the funeral home, & standing by the door kind of greeting people as they walk in. Well, somebody walks in carrying a beat up old guitar case, and it's Eddie Van Halen, all by himself. We had no idea he was coming, & here the dude was! Eddie Van Halen himself! With an old beat up guitar case! No security, no nothin, JUST A @#$% COOL DUDE!!! Vince, Rita, Cat & a few others were in another room, so we took Eddie over there to see them. He walks in, greets everybody, & sets the case on the table. Here ya go man...
The case is opened and WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its 4 am, & I've got to go to bed. Gettin old. Theres a few more cool things to the story, I'll finish it tomorrow!
