PREY FOR ROCK AND ROLL
Directed by Alex Steyermark
USA 2003 100 min 35mm

Gina Gershon rocks. If you've seen Bound, you'll understand that in the figurative sense. Now you can see this absurdly sexy woman belt out punk tunes.
In Prey for Rock and Roll, Gershon plays Jacki, the bisexual lead singer of an all-woman, mostly lesbian rock band, Clamdandy, whose members are played by Drea de Matteo, Lori Petty, and Shelley Cole. Closing in on her fortieth birthday, Jacki is beginning to wonder if the toll of playing in lousy clubs and struggling to have her band taken seriously is worth the effort. Then comes an offer to open for the legendary punk band X. As Jacki tries to whip the band into shape for their biggest gig and last chance, bassist Tracy begins to crack under the pressure, and bandmate Sally must deal with the reappearance in her life of her ex-con brother, Animal. With the longtime friendships of the women and an opportunity to finally get signed to a record label hanging in the balance, Clamdandy must either pull together or put away their dreams of ever making it as a band. Both funny and poignant, Prey for Rock and Roll gives a fresh take on the struggles of women in the music industry and the broader difficulties of trying to maintain both dreams and friendships into middle age, all while providing an array of sensual treats.
