AIMEE MANN

(et son groupe, en live)

When performing, Aimee Mann favors a Gibson J160 acoustic (circa 1954) outfitted with a Sunrise pickup. She also plays a Framus bass and a Fender Precision. Her vocal mic of choice is an Audio-Technica ATM61HE. (The other vocalists in the band use ATM61HEs, too.)

Michael Penn's main live axe is a Gibson J45 Mahogany Custom (reissue) with a Sunrise pickup.

Lead guitarist Michael Lockwood carries a small arsenal of guitars including a '65 Epiphone Sheraton, an Epiphone Rivera, a Gibson Les Paul, and a Fender Custom Shop B-Bender Telecaster. He uses an old Ampeg 1×12 Jet amplifier, as well as a Cordovox rotating speaker cabinet powered by a Vox Pathfinder amp. For effects, he has a Dave Friedman custom pedal board that houses an Ibanez fuzz wah; a Digitech Whammy pedal; a Klon Centaur overdrive pedal; an Ernie Ball volume pedal; a Boss PN-2 tremolo-pan pedal; a Boss FZ-3 fuzz pedal; a Boss DM-1 analog delay; and four Z-Vex pedals: a Seekwah, a Fuzz Factory, a Machine, and a Super Hard On.

LYNYRD SKYNYRD

When Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington performs "Free Bird" these days, he plays his original cherry '61 Gibson Les Paul/SG Standard with side-pull vibrato. He plugs his guitar directly into the rig he has used since the '70s: a Peavey Mace amp head and a Peavey 4x12 cabinet (with the back removed to produce a more open sound) loaded with JBL speakers. This very same rig survived the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of Skynyrd singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and singer Cassie Gaines.

Tu es lourd

Beck and Todd use Gibson Les Paul Studios with EMG pickups (neck : 85 ; bridge :81); they occasionally will switch with ESP Custom Eclipses (with emg) or Fenders. Todd runs his guitar through a Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier head and Mesa/Boogie 4x12 cabinets and Beck runs his through a Peavey 5150 head and Marshall 4x12 cabinets with the famous red XXX. The bassist, whoever he may be at the time you are reading this, uses a Fender Precision bass.

Et datant de 2002 :

Weinstock: “I’m using a Les Paul Classic right now, and I have a Les Paul Studio Light. I use a Bogner head, the Uberschall. I just got it about a month ago, and I dig it a lot. I’d been using a Mesa for the whole time before that, and I liked it, but I didn’t like it. I didn’t really know where else to go; everything I tried, it wasn’t really up to par. But the Bogner kicked my ass.”

Beck: “I use a Les Paul Classic and a Hughes & Kettner amp. Pedal-wise, I’m using a Line 6 delay modeler.”

Et ça aussi :

As for effects, both Beck and Todd use a Moogerfooger Lowpass Filter, Analog Delay, and Ring Modulator. Beck uses a Line 6 Delay modeler, filter modeler, and modulation modeler. He also has a Dunlop Jimi Hendrix wah,and an Electro-Harmonix Small Stone Phase Shifter. Todd uses a Visual Sound H20 Liquid Chorus and Echo, and an Electro Harmonix Micro Synthesizer.

STEVE VAI

It’s simple. For guitars, I used Evo and Flo, which are my main Ibanez Jems. The cable out of my guitar goes into a Boss DS-1 Overdrive and Bad Horsie wah wah, then into a Carvin Legacy amp, then the send goes into a rackmounted Digitech Whammy pedal, then I went into a Morley Little Alligator volume pedal, out of that and into a TC Electronic G-Force which was split in stereo and returned into the main Legacy and another Legacy, and out to power two Carvin 4x12 cabinets. For the triple-neck, there are three separate outputs. The fretless neck went into the jam rig, which is just a Legacy rig with an MXR phase shifter and some delay, and then a Bad Horsie and an Ibanez Tube Screamer. Out of the effects loop in the back of that rig, was a Boss digital delay pedal. The fretless 6-string neck was tuned to an E2 chord — E, B, F#, G#, B, E. The middle neck, which is the main neck, went through my regular rig and was tuned standard. The 12-string neck went direct into an Eventide H3000 with a setting I had built which had all these reverse clustered harmonic overtones with delays and stuff. That just went stereo into the console. The 12-string neck was tuned to an F# major chord.

the ds1 is use to boost the dist channel during the solo.
the dist channel has not enough gain because steve use the volume of is guitar toclean up the dist sound of the amp.
never use compression at high volume. it kill the sound.
when you play at high volume a natural compression comes.
