As you know from our previous updates the first Limited Edition boards looked beautiful, so we trusted the supplier to produce the next run of standard boards and thought they would look just as great.
When the Kickstarter boards arrived from China a few weeks ago we were surprised by the low quality of print, especially seeing as they did such a great job last time. There was bleeding of the black silk-screen layer on top of the white solder resist layer, meaning the logo and graphics on the back of the board were blurry and in parts illegible. We were not happy giving them to our faithful backers so we decided to remake them at the cost of around one month of lead time - 2 weeks to remake the PCBs and 2 weeks for assembly.

Early this week, we learned some disappointing news from the manufacturer we had picked to make the injection molding tooling for our brand spanking new control box. They had not even started on the tooling yet AND were looking to increase the prices of their original quote. Since tooling takes the longest to make (usually at least 6 weeks, with time for revisions), it had been extremely important to us that they start right away.
We’re devastated by how this impacts our ship date. We’ve scrambled to find another factory who can make the molds, and we feel that we’ve found a great one! They’ve estimated a shorter tooling lead time of 25 days, and since they are doing our PCB assembly as well, we’ll save time in shipping and trying to coordinate between two factories.
All in all, adding in two weeks to make the plastic pieces with the finished tooling and to put all the kits together, our estimates say we’ll ship in mid-August.
We are so disappointed to tell you about this delay! We want to see you with your DrumPants as much as you do! We hope that you can bear with us just a little bit longer as we build up our team of supply chain partners.
